A slightly belated stocking filler

For us, no trip to Melbourne is complete without catching up with friends. And it’s hard to find friends more fun to spend time with than Neil, Renee, Jotham and Noah.

On a recent trip we decided to do a fun family Christmas photo session with them. Problem: how to do a fun Christmas shoot without resorting to Santa beards, crazy hats, flashing bowties or reindeer antlers?  Together we came up with a different solution: letting them be the gifts themselves! Renee created these very fun but wildly uncomfortable costumes for them to wear and we spent a hilarious afternoon in a park watching them falling over and trying to stand up. Hailey was laughing so hard she found it very difficult to keep them all in the frame! Of course it probably would have been nice to help them, but it was too much fun just pointing and laughing.

Hope you had a good laugh at Christmas time too! Happy New Year!

Ali Breeze & Chris engaged.

Ali and Chris are delightful fun.  I enjoyed walking the streets of Bardon and watching their little dog Poppy do the most amazing hand-stands-to-pee tricks! (you will see what I mean!) AMAZING!

I love engagement sessions! Sometimes after spending time photographing a couple I don’t want to go home… I just want to sit and chat about books and have tea out of cool retro cups. ;)

Ali runs a gorgeous vintage shop at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre. So naturally their home is filled with fun things! These two are wonderful together. Peas in a pod.

I am feeling super lucky to have a job like this where I meet such yummy families!! Rowe is a super talented photographer and also one of the loveliest people I have ever met!

With Rowe’s session we did a little film too!  Still photos and a little movie! We are calling these family sessions ‘Moving family portraits!’  If you’re interested in one of these sessions we have 3 spots available in November so get in touch today!!

You can see some more family movies here and here.

India. School time.

Here are some images from my recent trip to India showing the work I was there to capture. I’m hoping to release more of the images and video by Christmas.

When I look over these images it feels like a million years ago. It was a trip that challenged and inspired me like no other journey I’ve taken. I’m filled with delight just thinking about it.

The first shoot was for an amazing school in Dehradun, north of New Delhi. It was a treat to spend a few hours in a school that was set up to give children from the local slums an education. There are over 1000 children attending this school! The motto for the Sneaha school is ‘Education Is For All’. These beautiful children have faces full of promise and excitement and I’ve never seen kids so grateful to receive an education! This was an assignment I was so thrilled and honoured to capture!

Benedicte & Charlie

Here are the lovely Benedicte & Charlie – a totally gorgeous couple in love!

Bene and Charlie live overseas but while on a little holiday here in Brisbane we did an engagement session with them.

We named the purple balloon Gertrude! Unfortunately Gertie flew away while I was trying to do a couple of shots without her!! ;( She must have been offended…;(

More blog posts coming soon!!! ;)

I found a bear on the street.

This last week our youngest turned 8yrs old! It is amazing to think that our baby is so big.

Poppy is full of sparkle and fun. She is great at giving bear hugs… hence her birthday present!

While 8 seems rather big and grown up and I sometimes feel a tiny bit sad at the passing of babyhood. (No more tubby little bellies or chubby cheeks.) She is so tall and tends to tell me things like they are.

It is an honor to be her mum. I am amazed at the wonderful person who I am getting to know. I am the luckiest! Not baby but girl.

A lovely Bear girl.

You’re most likely going to ask… Where can I get my own sweet teddy bear hat?? WE LOVE these fantastic hats by Spirithoods.

Also Poppy is wearing POLKA our most favorite children’s clothing label!! GET SOME HERE!

If you go down to your local construction site today, you’re in for a big surprise…

Janet and Darrell were wanting a really fun idea for their engagement sitting… so I put a couple to them and, well, see below for the results!

I was sooo excited that they were happy to spend money on my crazy ideas and my super-fun little sister Bene and I had so much fun and laughter photographing them dancing around town with an inflatable love sign and oversized bear heads!

We have been dying to show you these shots since we photographed them awhile ago, but better late than never! Hope you enjoy them too!

Posing in the rain, just posing in the rain…

I don’t normally photograph in the rain. If it is rainy I suggest a re-schedule. For Shane Emmett’s shoot there was no other day possible. He was in Brisbane for just one day and it was now or never. So we got wet. VERY WET.
Wetter then I think I have ever been. It is surprisingly hard to move in wet jeans and boots full of water. I made Shane jump off rocks and lay in puddles and wet grass. He was a trooper and kept going despite at least a dozen ant bites. It was slow work wiping my lenses every 2min and Shane was especially patient!

Despite all this we did manage to get some lovely photos of this seriously handsome man. He is an actor and presenter and generally all round wonder! If you don’t know him you should go see more of him here! You might have seen his Tropfest winning film too?? See it here. It is AMAZING!! He made it with this clever guy, Jason.

Not everyone looks this good wet! I know I did not! ;)

The Medics – Brisbane band photography

I rather love to photograph bands. I have done a few lately but have not had time to share. Luckily this project is coming together nicely and I had a moment to do some YCBS work!

I didn’t really know about these clever guys till I had the honour of photographing them.

You must check them out! The Medics. Super duper talented!

I can’t wait to hear more from their new album!
