Coco the kitten

I love to photograph kids over a number of years. With this family I have had the pleasure of capturing special events and following their gorgeous kids as they grow.

Check out this families recent birthday party here.

Harriet below has long been my ‘muse’ a spirited little soul who makes me smile. She knows the photography drill big time! Often telling me, ‘enough photos!’ usually 10min into the shoot… however I did manage to strike a deal where she could take a couple of shots of ME if I get a couple more of her.

I could include one of the photos she took… a most  un-flattering shot of me with my grubby knees and sweaty face!! These shots were taken on a particularly sweltering hot day in a tangle of wet park/ mosquito farm!! Of course I will NOT be including these!!

Harriet’s little sister, Imogen looked like this not that long ago… check out her amazing eyes and the best baby grin around!!

For Harriet’s 5th Birthday she got Coco the kitten…

Earnest.

We are so excited to introduce the newest memeber of our family!!

Earnest…. a little big Great DANE puppy. He is 8 weeks old and the most fun ever.

It has taken me 3 days to work out how to photograph a puppy. He is not exactly obedient yet… however well on his way. It is rather tricky to photograph him while holding his lead and the camera!! He loves to snuggle up and climb all over me especially when I get down low to take a photo. My camera has already had a little chew and a few licks too.

Ohhh we are in LOOOVEEE!! When he arrived Poppy declared him beautiful and then started to cry… saying “Oh I promised myself I wouldn’t cry!!”

Zali and I have had a few conversations about love and loss. Mostly because our last pets were eaten up by our next door neighbors dog. It was a very traumatic day for the girls and one that left quite an impression on Zali. The very much loved chickens can be found here.

Having only had this little guy 3 days, we already love him so much and it is hard for Zali to not get worried about the possibility of one day losing him too. I love the conversations and amazing insights she has. We decided that all things are only on loan to us for a short time… even our family. So let’s enjoy these people and pets and things and delight in them today. When the time comes to say goodbye we will be sad. VERY sad. Maybe knowing all along they were not really ours will help a bit. Big concept for kids but I think she is on her way.

Hope you enjoy these pics of him.

Family portrait photographer Brisbane

I love photographing families! I love photography! I keep feeling rather overwhelmed with how lucky I am to have a job I love so much. I am getting closer and closer my goals and it feels good… ;)

Here is a very cute family from a couple weeks ago. These were taken on an incredibly hot day at Roma St gardens. Ashley, Nicole and little Isabelle were very energetic and we ran around the whole park while I followed snap snapping away.

Dan & Liz - Melbourne wedding

I have been so busy and very slow to blog but I promise to catch up now!!

We love travelling down to Melbourne for weddings. This wedding was no exception! Liz and Dan had a lovely relaxed wedding ceremony at Mentone beach Surf Club. Before that though we met up at a park in Surrey Hills for some lush greenery. We had perfect sunny weather and the beach front location was stunning. I loved the dress Liz chose and the flowers were beautiful. Thanks guys for choosing us to be part of your day.

10yrs old

My little big girl has just turned 10.

Somehow the last 10yrs just flew by and here I am looking at a young girl who keeps reminding me of the baby girl she was a moment ago and then giving me glimpses of the woman she will be in just a moment.

I keep thinking what a delight that I get to be with this wise and amazing soul.

I am blessed. I am grateful!

Byron Bay film festival

We are thrilled to be heading to the Byron Bay International Film Festival to see our short film “Getting Dad” screen.

Wonderful to be selected to screen at a festival I can actually go to! Only a little drive away… There really is nothing like seeing your film screen with an audience. So fun to hear people laugh when you meant it to be funny and ‘get’ what the film is about. An honor!!

Here are a few stills from the film. Come along and see it!!!

Inspiration at the beach.

How amazing is the beach! Quickly go and enjoy this fine weather and enjoy it as much as possible… sit and think and do handstands in the sand…

When I am on the beach I feel my soul expanding and all the worries get very small.

Here are a few shots from the last few days of beachy fun we had.

Very excited to show you the first wedding video by our good friend and colleague Pancho Colladetti. We now offer wedding videos alongside our photography! Pancho is AMAZING!!! Check it out here:

.

Also I have had a few people asking about how to make giant heads like here and here .

So here is what we did…

1. Take a few close up images against a plain backdrop.

picture-2

2. Pick your favourite fun image and grab a giant brush colouring over the top and neck.

picture-5

3. Rotate and crop as needed.picture-7

4. Process how you like it, re-size for print. We did 1m x 1m.

picture-8

5. Take your files to a large format printer. We recommend getting vinyl prints with the sticky backing. However we un-wisely opted for the high quality print but no sticky back. So we cut out the faces and then glued them to backing board with spray glue. HOWEVER this is a 3 person job and fiddly and the glue did not hold as well as we hoped. SO if you can avoid it, DO!!!

6. Once our boards and pictures were joined and cut to face shape, we gaffa taped some sticks on the back! EASY! and fun!

Let me know if any questions, happy to help!

Masquerade Wedding - Newcastle

This will be my very last blog post for 2009!!

We traveled to Newcastle to photograph this wedding and it was the last wedding for the year. It was wonderful! GREAT to be in a different city and such a fun wedding to photograph too!

Michael and Madeline had a masquerade ball theme for their wedding. They were married in a stone church in Morpeth. This was the first time I’ve been to Morpeth I could of stayed all day and photographed. It was delighful and so many fantastic backdrops. These guys were very easy going and happy to do whatever I asked… including some hair-brained idea to jump a wire fence and go into a burnt out field. I have so many favorites from this wedding, it is going to be a bumper blog post!
