India.. when can I come back?

I have so many photos from India I don’t know what to do!

I have to keep most of the work I was doing there a little bit under wraps for now but will tell more about that soon!! I can’t wait to show you the beautiful stories and people I met with while in India. But for this post, a few shots from my travels.

When I arrived in Delhi I had a sense that I was about to go on a great adventure.

I was so right! Everything about India was remarkable!

From crazy driving to being lost in the middle of the night… from staying in strange ‘hotels’ with pre-warmed beds to walking down hills so steep it would be easier to slide down… to sitting with inspiring women and watching their eyes light up as they excitedly talk about how they help their communities… from slums to villages to the tailor who made me laugh and offered me loads of Chai. From the girl I scared and made her drop the water that took her 1.5hrs to get… to the dogs that scared me at night and made me grab my friends hand in terror – to the stunning women of India who are elegant and beautiful even while draped precariously on the back of crazy fast scooters.

ADVENTURE was had. In fact of all the countries I’ve been to I have never felt so connected and delighted with a country before.

So thank you India for inspiring me. For a sense of perspective that can only come from having lunch in a house the size of my laundry. For the colour and people who made my stay fantastic. Thank you! “Achchacha”

If you go down to your local construction site today, you’re in for a big surprise…

Janet and Darrell were wanting a really fun idea for their engagement sitting… so I put a couple to them and, well, see below for the results!

I was sooo excited that they were happy to spend money on my crazy ideas and my super-fun little sister Bene and I had so much fun and laughter photographing them dancing around town with an inflatable love sign and oversized bear heads!

We have been dying to show you these shots since we photographed them awhile ago, but better late than never! Hope you enjoy them too!

Alarna is extremely creative and has so many wonderful things in her store you must visit!!
I am extremely excited to be working on another little project with Alarna – but more about that soon!

Here she is in her natural environment showing her delightful sense of style…

And this is her shop!

Now back to our regular programming!

Here is a photo of our extremely cute Earnest. He has grown up too quick! This is a puppy photo of him we have just sold to a pet food company in the U.S. He is going to be famous!

365 grateful

Here is a photo of an ordinary seagull sitting on the edge of a cliff.

I like this photo – I like the seagull’s skinny legs and littleness. Compared to the expanse of his surroundings, he is tiny!

I kind of feel like this bird. A couple of days ago we launched a new website and a few months ago we started serious work on our first documentary film. IT IS A HUGE PROJECT – not only is it a lot of work but actually kinda scary work!

You’re wondering and hoping it will work, hoping that people will connect with the content, hoping that you can still support your family and hoping that you actually can do what you set out to do!

So I looked at this little bird and then the other shots of him soaring into the sky and I felt inspired. He looked amazing as he took flight and did what he was made to do…

I think I might have been made to do this… (I hope that feeling is right!)

So without further delay I am happy to present the website for 365 Grateful – a documentary and project about gratefulness and how it affects happiness. My mother Toni Powell and I are directing and driving 365 Grateful, but we are all working on the project. Andrew designed the spiffy new site and our girls are always involved in their own way! I hope you come along with us for the ride!

A very positive stocking filler!

And now for something completely different!

If you’ve looked at our film website recently, you might have seen a trailer for one of our short films – ‘Ruby Who?’ It’s about a little girl who wishes for everything, gets it, and then realises it doesn’t live up to it’s promise. It doesn’t make her happy.

Ruby Who? has been a very successful little film, screening around the world at dozens of film festivals and winning several awards. We started to cotton on to a new life for it though, when we were approached by a number of schools and groups who wanted to buy a copy of the film to show their pupils – especially primary-aged girls. The feedback was that it powerfully communicated the message of how important it is to know yourself, and be yourself. What you have and what you look like does not make you who you are. It was the message that originally inspired us to make the film – being a parent to two very observant girls we kept coming up against a need to explain how wishing to be like others, or have what other people have, can be a trap and will not make you happy.

So we decided to develop supporting materials, in consultation with childcare workers and teachers, that would help other parents and teachers who are trying to discuss the same topics with their kids. Which brings us to a new site we are launching called ‘I Like To Be Me!‘ Initially it is a way we can market the ‘Ruby Who’ DVD and all the associated products like worksheets, colouring in, badges, stickers, tee-shirts and a soon-to-be-completed illustrated kids book. But over time we will be adding more resources – films, articles, books and so on that will further help support parents and teachers in their bid to boost the self-esteem of little ones and provide a way to discuss sensitive topics like body-image, gratitude, positivity and the consumerist society.

We’d love it if you would take a moment to check out some of the material on the site, maybe buy a DVD or some of our cute badges for a special little person!

Let us know what you think!

White men can jump…

Here’s a sneak peek at one of the fun couples we’ve been lucky enough to spend some time with recently – Luke and Mani. They got married at a park in North Fitzroy, Melbourne and we didn’t have to travel far around that area to find some really fun locations for photos! Of course it helps when the groom knows how to get some serious air in his wedding Cons…

We’ll be back with more soon! Honest!

Our complete website is finally here!

Friends, you feared it might never happen. You assumed we were just hot air. That our repeated assurances of ‘our new site is under construction‘ were the online equivalent of ‘the cheque’s in the mail‘. But I, Andrew, am here to tell you to put your slippers on and gather your kids because I have some news…

You Can’t Be Serious is proud to announce the official launch of their new website www.youcantbeserious.com.au! *cue streamers and thunderous applause*

Featuring a sparkling new landing page that effortlessly directs you to the various sub-sites, we think that you will now be able to get a feel for the broad range of work we are able to do. There’s short films, web promos, music videos, commercial photography, graphic design, fun personal projects, kid’s animations, and links to new projects that we’re working on as well.

Special thanks must go to our tireless online consultant programmer developer genius technician… guy…  Keiran for putting up with my repeated changes of direction and design. We were unable to present him with a challenge he couldn’t overcome… although we gave it our best shot!

Hailey has edited together a very entertaining showreel which is supported by a very sprightly backing track kindly provided by the fantastic local lads Hungry Kids of Hungary. Definitely check them out if you feel your feet tapping.

And lastly, we’d love to connect with you via Facebook or Twitter so please click on the link on the main page to make sure you never miss out on what we’re up to.

Hope you enjoy looking around and feel free to get in touch if you have any queries about our work!
