Dan & Liz - Melbourne wedding

I have been so busy and very slow to blog but I promise to catch up now!!

We love travelling down to Melbourne for weddings. This wedding was no exception! Liz and Dan had a lovely relaxed wedding ceremony at Mentone beach Surf Club. Before that though we met up at a park in Surrey Hills for some lush greenery. We had perfect sunny weather and the beach front location was stunning. I loved the dress Liz chose and the flowers were beautiful. Thanks guys for choosing us to be part of your day.

10yrs old

My little big girl has just turned 10.

Somehow the last 10yrs just flew by and here I am looking at a young girl who keeps reminding me of the baby girl she was a moment ago and then giving me glimpses of the woman she will be in just a moment.

I keep thinking what a delight that I get to be with this wise and amazing soul.

I am blessed. I am grateful!

Byron Bay film festival

We are thrilled to be heading to the Byron Bay International Film Festival to see our short film “Getting Dad” screen.

Wonderful to be selected to screen at a festival I can actually go to! Only a little drive away… There really is nothing like seeing your film screen with an audience. So fun to hear people laugh when you meant it to be funny and ‘get’ what the film is about. An honor!!

Here are a few stills from the film. Come along and see it!!!

Also so happy to see our work spreading around.

If you’re a bride, check out POLKADOTBRIDE they just did a little feature on our work. The fantastic wedding of Madeleine and Michael. There are heaps of extra shots on the Polkadot site so take a look.

Inspiration at the beach.

How amazing is the beach! Quickly go and enjoy this fine weather and enjoy it as much as possible… sit and think and do handstands in the sand…

When I am on the beach I feel my soul expanding and all the worries get very small.

Here are a few shots from the last few days of beachy fun we had.

A little mix of this and that…

Hello and we hope you had a great time welcoming 2010!!

I have an odd mix of things to share today.

We are totally honored to be mentioned on the amazing blogs below!! Many thanks!

(i love love debs work!)

and I recently discovered this great site too….

www.polkadotbride.com

we recently had a wedding featured and our Christmas video made a little cameo too! :)

Also we were featured in OUI magazine. A French fashion magazine. Sooo fun to receive a copy and see my work printed big!! teehee!

HERE IS THE LINK: OUI magazine (do not google there is another not so  nice magazine with same name!!!!)

oui-mag-spread

Very excited to show you the first wedding video by our good friend and colleague Pancho Colladetti. We now offer wedding videos alongside our photography! Pancho is AMAZING!!! Check it out here:

.

Also I have had a few people asking about how to make giant heads like here and here .

So here is what we did…

1. Take a few close up images against a plain backdrop.

picture-2

2. Pick your favourite fun image and grab a giant brush colouring over the top and neck.

picture-5

3. Rotate and crop as needed.picture-7

4. Process how you like it, re-size for print. We did 1m x 1m.

picture-8

5. Take your files to a large format printer. We recommend getting vinyl prints with the sticky backing. However we un-wisely opted for the high quality print but no sticky back. So we cut out the faces and then glued them to backing board with spray glue. HOWEVER this is a 3 person job and fiddly and the glue did not hold as well as we hoped. SO if you can avoid it, DO!!!

6. Once our boards and pictures were joined and cut to face shape, we gaffa taped some sticks on the back! EASY! and fun!

Let me know if any questions, happy to help!

  1. Michele wrote: When you say "take to a large format printer" can you give more info for those of us not in the know ie where do you go to get printed (and also rouch/approximate cost?) Great idea guys! Awesome pics/video (01/13/10, 2:42 pm)

  2. Hailey wrote: hi Michele Sure thing! Ok here is where I went to get the prints done. http://www.ptstore.com.au/index.cfm They were FANTASTIC! I think from memory we paid around $25 ea print. Plus all the glue and boards and sticks! :) (01/13/10, 2:48 pm)

  7. Tania McCartney wrote: I SO loved this idea. So so gorgeous. Another cheaper cheat's option - (I'm not as professional as you!) - is to take a digital photo of everyone holding sticks up to their chins, then cut out different close-up head shots using Adobe software, and paste them digitally on top of the heads in the original photo. The sticks you're holding will join up with the superimpsed heads. :) (01/15/10, 7:36 pm)

  8. hailey wrote: Thanks everyone... Ali the song is by these guys... myspace.com/yeahyeahyeahs MY BIG TIME FAVs. Tania - yes we thought about this cheaper option and probably would have done if not wanting to do a video of us all being big heads. :) (01/16/10, 10:10 am)

Masquerade Wedding - Newcastle

This will be my very last blog post for 2009!!

We traveled to Newcastle to photograph this wedding and it was the last wedding for the year. It was wonderful! GREAT to be in a different city and such a fun wedding to photograph too!

Michael and Madeline had a masquerade ball theme for their wedding. They were married in a stone church in Morpeth. This was the first time I’ve been to Morpeth I could of stayed all day and photographed. It was delighful and so many fantastic backdrops. These guys were very easy going and happy to do whatever I asked… including some hair-brained idea to jump a wire fence and go into a burnt out field. I have so many favorites from this wedding, it is going to be a bumper blog post!

Jinky Art intro film

Very behind in blogging here!!

Just wanted to send everyone over to Jinky Arts website to take a look at the lovely little film we collaborated on.

Barb from JinkyArt is an excellent visionary, a producer/director and wrote a fantastic storyline. Of course she also shot all the beautiful stills throughout the film.

I was delighted to co-direct with her and film/edit this piece. The talent is Amelie who just amazes me with her energy and ability to act!! She truely was amazing, thanks so much for all your hard work Amelie and Jo.

The music is by Paperkites, check out their myspace .

Makes me wish I lived in Canberra to book a shoot. The little girls room is so funky! I want cranes on my roof too! Love this little movie H, gorgeous footage. (12/21/09, 9:17 am)

Max’s Party

I love LOVE to photograph kids parties. All that colour and fun and kids being kids!

Max’s 3rd birthday was a circus party.  So plenty of wonderful costumes and very very cute little clown.

They even had a couple wonderful clowns come from  Peebo and Dagwood. They were very entertaining and fun and even the adults were captivated.

Also there was a jumping castle that despite the heat, kids in costumes bounced around to their hearts content. (I only lasted a little bit on there!!)

I do believe fun was had by all!

Christmas gifts??

We are running a little behind here but if anyone hasn’t got a great christmas present yet. I HAVE found a 4 wonderful ones!!

I was recently approached by a company called Mind Gardener™. It was so exciting having them purchase my images for use on such a great product.
Here is a little bit about their products….

Mind Gardener™ is an Australian initiative that brings together a series of resources that contain information, ideas, exercises and tips that will guide your growth and help you flourish in a particular area of life.
Mind Gardener authors spend their time translating the growing body of knowledge on the mind and research on the brain, so that you can navigate quickly to the information and actions that will make a difference in your life.

It is so nice to see my images all printed up and designed into great products. Very satisfying!

I have included an image of my favorite “tip” because we all know being Grateful has taught me HEAPS!! However I just read over one of the ‘Clear mind’ boxes and was so inspired!! (and I do believe my mind cleared!!)
